Grape varieties

The grape varieties have been carefully selected to suit the mainly clay-limestone soil.

The varieties are

Cabernet Franc,
This grape yields fruity, velvety wines with more or less body depending on the way the wine is produced.

Chenin,
This grape gives lots of fruity character to Saumur white wines which can be rich or lighter, depending on the way the wine is produced.
These vines can also provide an extremely elegant sweet white wine, the Coteau de Saumur.
They are also perfect for producing sparkling wines by the traditional method.

Chardonnay,
When it is used with the Chenin, this grape helps produce fine sparkling Crémants de Loire.
